April Showers Bring May Flowers!!

Spring is arriving in Garrett County. This May you can enjoy the Bird fest weekend at the Deep Creek Lake State Park Discovery Center. Beginning Saturday May 3rd at 6pm Katie Fallon will be speaking and signing her new book, and Sunday May 4th at 2pm there will be Bird Photography at the Aviary. Both days will host various children crafts, bird encounters, and walks. These activities will be taking place during different times of day. So come on out . . .

Outdoor Sports Show in McHenry, MD

On the first weekend of spring, Saturday, March 22 to Sunday, March 23, 2014 the annual Outdoor Sports Show will take place at the fairgrounds in McHenry, MD. The show will be open Saturday from 10am to 7pm and on Sunday from 10am until 4pm offering the perfect occassion to get informed about the latest gear and outdoor toys. A break!

Don’t bother removing all the snow from your driveway yet…. Just in time for Christmas Winter will give us a break. From Friday on temperatures in the Mid-50s are expected for the Deep Creek Lake area. Seems like we will have to change plans for the weekend a little, from skiing to a walk or a run in the (green) woods. As there is also some rain in the forecast our cars will probably show their original color again soon, . . .

From December 3 until December 24, 2013 you can go Treasure Hunting in beautifully decorated Downtown Oakland! Pick up your 12 Days to Christmas map from the Cornish Manor, the Cornish Cafe or the City Hall. Then take a nice stroll through downtown Oakland, MD and match the businesses to the ornaments they are displaying. Enter your results into the map and return it to the Cornish Cafe. There is a winterstorm warning out for Garrett County, MD from today until Thursday morning. The weathermen predict a bad wintry mix, with freezing rain and sleet and snow during the nights. Temperatures will be in the 30s, with nighttime lows around 16F. Although the County and SHA crews always do an incredible job, if you do not have to travel, better stay off the road.
