Pick up your 12 Days to Christmas map from the Cornish Manor, the Cornish Cafe or the City Hall. Then take a nice stroll through downtown Oakland, MD and match the businesses to the ornaments they are displaying. Enter your results into the map and return it to the Cornish Cafe. There is a winterstorm warning out for Garrett County, MD from today until Thursday morning. The weathermen predict a bad wintry mix, with freezing rain and sleet and snow during the nights. Temperatures will be in the 30s, with nighttime lows around 16F. Although the County and SHA crews always do an incredible job, if you do not have to travel, better stay off the road. Things should get better during Thanksgiving Day, with even lower temperatures but no precipitation. . . .

New Shop at the Wisp Resort

Next weekend, November 29 to December 1 the Grand Opening of Outdoor Elements will take place at the Wisp Resort in McHenry, MD. The Grand Opening is scheduled Friday from 11am to 7pm, Saturday from 8am to 7pm and on Sunday from 8am to 5pm. During the Grand Opening door busters and light refreshments will be offered, furthermore there will be a drawing for a 2013/2014 Wisp Resort Season Pass. Make it a Railroad Weekend!

If you like trains you have plenty of choices, even if the weather is not so nice. Why not go to Oakland, MD and visit the Railroad Museum at the old B&O train station? In November and December an exhibition of train photographs takes place, the museum is open Friday and Saturday from 10 to 3 and on Sunday from 12 to 3. Enjoy the atmosphere in the beautiful B&O train station and learn about the history of the railroad. . . .

Wisp Opening Day

On November 29, 2013 the Wisp Resort in McHenry, MD will kick of the season with its Rail Jam. The event is open to skiers and borders, registration starts at 1pm, competition at 2pm.
