Outdoor Sports Show in McHenry, MD
On the first weekend of spring, Saturday, March 22 to Sunday, March 23, 2014 the annual Outdoor Sports Show will take place at the fairgrounds in McHenry, MD. Goosebumps and Grapes
On Friday, February 21, 2014, from 6 to 9pm, Goosebumps & Grapes will take place at the HoniHoni Bar at Deep Creek Lake, MD. The event features a bonfire as well as a wine sampling. The wines are courtesy of Republic National Distributing Company and will be sold at Arrowhead Market on Friday and Saturday. $3 from every bottle purchased will be donated to Special Olympics Maryland. This weekend there are a lot of things you can do around Deep Creek Lake! There finally is enough snow on the ground to go cross country skiing, also the slopes at the Wisp should be in perfect condition for skiing and tubing now. Swallow Falls are definitely frozen by now – always a beautiful photo opportunity! The Garrett County State Parks offer their First Day Hikes on New Year’s Day. At Herrington Manor State Park, the hike starts at 1pm and you are invited to bring your (well-behaved, on a leash) dog with you. A a park ranger will guide this hike around Herrington Manor and will inform you about what you need to know when you bring your dog to a state park. At New Germany State Park the hike will start at approx. 1pm. . . .

Don’t bother removing all the snow from your driveway yet…. Just in time for Christmas Winter will give us a break. From Friday on temperatures in the Mid-50s are expected for the Deep Creek Lake area. Seems like we will have to change plans for the weekend a little, from skiing to a walk or a run in the (green) woods. X-Country skiing in Garrett County, MD
Here is good news to all all-season outdoor enthusiasts: The area around Deep Creek Lake, MD is not only in summer a wonderful playground, but offers lots of outdoor activities in winter, too. New Shop at the Wisp Resort
Next weekend, November 29 to December 1 the Grand Opening of Outdoor Elements will take place at the Wisp Resort in McHenry, MD. The Grand Opening is scheduled Friday from 11am to 7pm, Saturday from 8am to 7pm and on Sunday from 8am to 5pm. End of the season
October 31 not only is a synonym for Halloween, but it does also mark the end of the summer season. Golf Courses will be closing these days, boat docks are being taken out of the lake, restaurants move their outdoor dining furniture back inside, homeowners swap their lawn mowers with snowthrowers and we are all getting ready for Ol’ Man Winter. However, soon enough we hopefully can enjoy all the great winter outdoor activities Garrett County, MD has to offer. . . .
