Deep Creek Lake offers yet another winter activity that many people probably aren’t aware of ……… snowshoeing tours. Yes, you heard me correctly snowshoeing! I never thought about it being an option here but why not? It is a great total body workout and lets you enjoy the outdoors in the winter months. Not everyone can ski or snowboard but I think almost everyone can snowshoe. I myself was introduced to it when visiting Quebec, Canada many years ago and . . .
It is that time of year again! The Garrett County Ice Fishing Contest has begun and will continue until March. Now that the lake has frozen over it’s time to get those reels back out and bundle up. All fish must be caught in Garrett County waters. A winner will be picked weekly and posted in the Republican. Contestants must have their fish weighed and measured at Deep Creek Outfitters, 32 Outfitter Way, McHenry, MD.
As winter still is in full swing and there is plenty of snow on the ground, make the most of it! A really nice alternative to skiing are the snowshoeing tours offered by All Earth Eco Tours at Swallow Falls State Park. The tours will be guided by a professional outdoor guide and start Saturday and Sunday at 10:am and 1:00 PM. While moving through the State Park you can learn about the plant and wildlife in winter and enjoy . . .
Here is good news to all all-season outdoor enthusiasts: The area around Deep Creek Lake, MD is not only in summer a wonderful playground, but offers lots of outdoor activities in winter, too. For example, the Herrington Manor State Park offers 10miles of groomed trails. If this is not enough, there also is a 5.5 mile trail to connect Herrington Manor with Swallow Falls State Park. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and the quiet in the woods, then go back to . . .
October 31 not only is a synonym for Halloween, but it does also mark the end of the summer season. However, soon enough we hopefully can enjoy all the great winter outdoor activities Garrett County, MD has to offer. . . .
