Spring is arriving in Garrett County. This May you can enjoy the Bird fest weekend at the Deep Creek Lake State Park Discovery Center. Beginning Saturday May 3rd at 6pm Katie Fallon will be speaking and signing her new book, and Sunday May 4th at 2pm there will be Bird Photography at the Aviary. Both days will host various children crafts, bird encounters, and walks. These activities will be taking place during different times of day. So come on out . . .

Getting Ready For Summer!
May 3, 2014 Deep Creek Lake Maryland will be hosting a Boat Auction and Community Yard Sale at the Lion’s Club Park on Bumblee Road McHenry, MD. What a great time to get ready for the summer. The auction will begin around 1pm, your yardsale items can be set up for free beginning at noon. There is still time to donate your old boats, ATV’s, and snowmachines. Groundhogs
Another 12 days until Spring if you believe in Groundhogs. If you don’t, it’ll be another 16 days until the Vernal Equinox, the first day of spring. Either way, considering the 73 days of winter we’ve already survived since the Winter Solstice on December 21, 2013 , it seems to be safe to say that the worst is over. Even better, for April and May the Farmers’ Almanac predicts warm and dry weather and a hot (and rainy) summer and . . .
A break!
Don’t bother removing all the snow from your driveway yet…. Just in time for Christmas Winter will give us a break. From Friday on temperatures in the Mid-50s are expected for the Deep Creek Lake area. Seems like we will have to change plans for the weekend a little, from skiing to a walk or a run in the (green) woods. As there is also some rain in the forecast our cars will probably show their original color again soon, . . .
