It’s the 4th of July weekend here in Garrett County. Thursday July 3rd at dusk Broad ford Lake Park will be holding their annual fireworks display. Then on Friday July 4th at dusk Deep Creek Lake will be holding their Fire on the Mountain annual fireworks display. Please everyone have a safe and Happy 4th of July. 2014 marks the 27th annual McHenry Highland Festival. This festival supplies the traditions of Highland music, games, and dance. You can visit the different Clan tents and shop with the Celtic vendors. This is a celebration for all ages to enjoy. April Showers Bring May Flowers!!
Spring is arriving in Garrett County. This May you can enjoy the Bird fest weekend at the Deep Creek Lake State Park Discovery Center. Beginning Saturday May 3rd at 6pm Katie Fallon will be speaking and signing her new book, and Sunday May 4th at 2pm there will be Bird Photography at the Aviary. Both days will host various children crafts, bird encounters, and walks. These activities will be taking place during different times of day. So come on out . . .
WEEKEND!
This weekend there are a lot of things you can do around Deep Creek Lake! There finally is enough snow on the ground to go cross country skiing, also the slopes at the Wisp should be in perfect condition for skiing and tubing now. Swallow Falls are definitely frozen by now – always a beautiful photo opportunity! On Saturday evening there will be Live Entertainment at the Black Bear, the Moonshadow Cafe and also at the HoniHoni. Another -very tempting- . . .

A break!
Don’t bother removing all the snow from your driveway yet…. Just in time for Christmas Winter will give us a break. From Friday on temperatures in the Mid-50s are expected for the Deep Creek Lake area. Seems like we will have to change plans for the weekend a little, from skiing to a walk or a run in the (green) woods. As there is also some rain in the forecast our cars will probably show their original color again soon, . . .
